About Sonya

Sonya was a personal trainer from 2003-2017, specializing in rehabilitative and corrective exercise. She always advocated and led her clients through stretching and in August 2011 became certified in Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST). She attended massage school in 2012 and has since taken many classes to expand her skills to help people. The classes have included Myoskeletal Alignment Technique (MAT), Neurokinetic Therapy (NKT) and furthered her anatomy knowledge through Immaculate Disection.

Assisted Stretch and Structural Massage

Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) does more than just elongate muscles, it stretches the fascia (connective tissue) that surrounds and separates the muscles and creates more room in the joint. Imagine wearing a suit that is one or two sizes too small – this is like having fascia that is compressed. Your muscles and joints are unable to move to full capacity and thereby are also not as powerful as they could be. FST is a unique hands-on bodywork system designed to restore function, relieve pain, rebalance, and reeducate the body. Structural Massage mobilizes soft tissue and muscles around joints helps bones to go where they want to go. This is unique for each person and their structure.

Lasting flexibility and Increased range of motion, which can help prevent injury.
Assisted stretching can target muscles and reach positions that you are unable to on your own.

How Sessions Differ From Swedish Massage

When most of us hear the word massage, we think of Swedish Massage. Swedish Massage is a wonderful form of bodywork to aid with relaxation, work out knots that have developed in muscles and help stiff muscles become more pliable.
FST and MAT go deeper than massage in that it loosens the connective tissue that lies deep within a joint (i.e. the hip joint) this allows for true increases in mobility and allow your bones to go where they want.
You remain fully clothed during a stretch session. Please wear shorts and a loose t-shirt.
Structural Massage gets to spot specific areas to further loosen muscles and connective tissue. It addresses the root cause of chronic issues and assists with longer lasting results.
Homework - yes, homework. Most clients are given stretches and/or exercises to continue the process started while working with me to improve their mobility and stability.
